Carmel Winery is the oldest and largest winery in Israel, founded in 1882 by Baron Edmond de Rothschild. It sits in Zikhron Yaakov at the start of Herzl Street, inside historic stone cellars. All Carmel wines are kosher, and the winery's history spans nearly a century and a half of Israeli winemaking. The visitor centre offers guided tours of the historic cellars with wine tastings and a cheese board, as well as wine-and-chocolate workshops. Booking ahead is recommended, but walk-ins are usually welcome. Families with children are welcome.
