## Description

Performed in Italian with subtitles in Russian and Hebrew. The Vienna–Tel Aviv Vocal Connection and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra proudly present: Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci — a grand production with more than 150 participants, the singers of the Vienna–Tel Aviv Vocal Connection, stars from the world's leading opera houses, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, and four choirs. Conductor: David Aronson, Vienna State Opera Director: Rosemary Danziger Chorus master: Asaf Benraf The Vienna–Tel Aviv Vocal Connection is the only opera company in Israel that stages full-scale productions of international caliber across the country for opera lovers everywhere. Each performance is a vivid cultural event, and the enthusiastic crowds that fill the halls are testament to its sweeping success. The pure delight and warmth with which audiences received the operas "The Marriage of Figaro" and "Die Fledermaus" give the artists the energy and drive to treat this wonderful public to ever more high-quality opera performances. This production presents two short masterpieces of verismo — Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni and Pagliacci by Ruggiero Leoncavallo. The two operas are frequently performed in a single evening, as they are stylistically alike and each runs about an hour, divided into two parts by an instrumental intermezzo. Both belong to the verismo genre, which portrays life without embellishment, just as it is, conveying the deepest human emotions and passions through the language of music and drama. In both operas the music is not merely a backdrop — it is both narrator and participant in the story itself, heightening the intensity of the passions while wrapping them in an aesthetic shell. The reality of the events on stage is underscored by the orchestra's rich sound and the powerful support of the choirs, who play the role of onlookers and witnesses to everything unfolding between the principal characters. Maestro David Aronson of the Vienna State Opera and internationally renowned opera director Rosemary Danziger lead the soloists, the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, and four choirs (including a children's choir) into the very eye of the storm gathering at the heart of each opera. Both works make extensive use of multiple choirs representing different groups in society — whether men and women returning from work in the fields, members of the community watching the Easter procession, or worshippers in church. In this production all four choirs are in the capable hands of Maestro Asaf Benraf, who has directed opera choirs around the world, including productions of the Israeli Opera. Performing verismo opera demands singers with strong, dramatic voices and powerful energy to authentically convey the full depth of the drama and the emotions bursting from the soul. In this Vienna–Tel Aviv Vocal Connection production, the leading roles are sung by world opera stars who have performed these demanding parts at the major opera houses of the world. Love, betrayal, jealousy, revenge — the tragedy that unfolds on stage is so deep and so real that it is impossible to remain unmoved.
