In the early 17th century, somewhere in Germany, a mysterious, modest and odd-looking soldier arrives at a small village and declares himself to the skeptical residents to be the heir to a plot of land. He even has the official documents to back it up. Despite their initial suspicion, the villagers welcome him into their community, and none of them suspects what secret he is hiding. But as the soldier becomes an increasingly significant part of the village, the rope of truth tightens around his neck. In his new film, Austrian director Markus Schleinzer explores questions of identity and acceptance, presenting a hypnotic and stylish piece of cinema that earned him acclaim at the Berlin Film Festival, where Sandra Hüller ("Anatomy of a Fall") won the award for Best Actress, once again proving she is one of the finest actresses of our generation. 94 minutes, German, Hebrew and English subtitles.
