Idi Amin — Lecturer Dr. Gustav Meisels
Idi Amin — the Butcher from Uganda. The military dictator of Uganda for a brief period (1971–1979) was an absolute psychopath obsessed with power. The combination of power and psychopathy can shake society and the state. Were it not for the atrocities he committed, Idi Amin's colorful figure might bring a smile to our faces. So where is the genius? Lecturer: Dr. Gustav Meisels — historian, specialist in the Middle East, Islam and linguistics. From an 8-session lecture series: "Genius and Madness." About the series: between the two phenomena — genius and madness — there is a close bond in art and music, architecture and the sciences, and also among social and political leaders, military and economic figures. In political leaders, this bond is seen as "necessary," as the American psychiatrist Nassir Ghaemi argued, calling it "the inverse law of sanity." In this fascinating series we trace the phenomenon in several prominent figures in historical-political leadership, to affirm or refute this claim.
