Between Melting Clocks and the Black Square — with Alon Klibanov
Between Melting Clocks and the Black Square. Modernism finds new paths to the subconscious — the world of drives and passions — to surrealism, Dada, new harmonies, stream of consciousness and to the absolute abandonment of connection to reality — to abstraction. Lecturer: Alon Klibanov — interdisciplinary historian specializing in the interactions between history and culture, and guide of traveling seminars. From an 8-session lecture series: "The Kaleidoscope Era — The Story of Modern Art." About the series: In the second half of the 19th century, enormous changes shook society and economy, and in their wake also culture and art. Authentic voices challenged the establishment entrenched in its position and attacking any attempt to change what, for it, was the proper world order. In the end, the new forces prevailed and the tradition of the mainstream in art shattered into a "kaleidoscope" of streams and sub-streams. What is the background to this process? How is such a unique symbiosis between historical and cultural processes created? And how does art contribute to changing the face of society? A journey between the figurative and the abstract, between emotion and reason, between the beautiful and the undefined, between consciousness and subconsciousness.
