Between the Maidens of Avignon and Dance - Lecturer Alon Klivanov
Between "Les Demoiselles d'Avignon" and "The Dance" Cubism and Fauvism, Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, bring yet another tremendous upheaval to culture and represent the tireless search for new forms of expression and the passion for turning one's back on the past. Lecturer: Alon Klivanov - a multidisciplinary historian specializing in the interrelationships between history and culture, and a guide of touring seminars. From a lecture series of 8 sessions: "The Kaleidoscope Age - The Story of Modern Art" About the series: In the second half of the 19th century, tremendous changes shook society and the economy, and in their wake, culture and art as well. Authentic voices challenged the establishment, which had entrenched itself in its position and attacked every attempt to change what it considered the proper order of the world. Ultimately, the new forces prevailed and the mainstream tradition in art shattered into a "kaleidoscope" of movements and sub-movements. What is the background to this process? How is such a unique symbiosis created between historical and cultural processes? And how does art contribute to changing the face of society? A journey between the figurative and the abstract, between emotion and intellect, between the beautiful and the undefined, and between consciousness and the subconscious.
